WINNERS: one of 5 copies of my book!
Right, the winners for the competition have been picked! By deadline, there were 151 competition entries, and I used Random.org to pick the winners.
The winners are:
#2 - ryan97ou
#88 - Luís Brás
#120 - John Jimenez
#116 - Tim Norris
#98 - Aaron Snowden
I’ll e-mail you all as soon as to get your addresses so I can ship the books out to you. CONGRATULATIONS!
Original competition for posterity:
I know I keep harping on about it, but I’m rather proud of this thing - loads of you have already bought the book (just saw the latest report from the publisher - incredible!), but if you fancy winning one completely for free, then here’s your chance!
I’ve got 5 copies to give away completely for free, and I’ll even sign them for you, if you’re interested. To enter, simply add a comment to this post.
The winner will be drawn on May 5th this year, at random from the commenters (so make sure that you’ve entered a working e-mail address so I can contact you to get your mailing address!).
If you’re not sure what to leave a comment about, why not just post a link to your DeviantArt gallery, Flickr profile, or website? I’d love to learn a little more about you lovely people!
As an aside, would you guys be interested in more competitions on Photocritic?
Have you read my Macro book?
I am rather proud of the fact that I have written a book about macro photography. It looks like that →
Hang on, did I just say a book? Sorry about that. All modesty aside, it's the book on macro photography. It's got a huge chapter on equipment, tons of info about the various styles and topics, a chapter on lighting, and even a chapter on digital darkroom stuff especially for macro photography.
Seriously, this book is 288 pages long, and it's got everything you ever wanted to know. And loads you probably didn't want to know, but that might come in useful anyway.
Get your copy of the book from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk today! If you prefer, you can buy a signed copy directly from me from this page.

As per your suggestion, here’s my Flickr page. I don’t have much, but hopefully I will have time in the next month to process many more.

this site is like a firend who knows exactly what you need to know! I really learnt a lot of useful tips, so I have to thank you for your work here :)
I have not a photography site because I mostly use analogic-old fashioned-film cameras and I’m too lazy to convert them into 0s and 1s..
..but you can check out this: http://www.myspace.com/00fleo and listen to my experimental/electronic mental trips..
ps: compliments are true, not for the competition ;)
#68 - April 20th, 2008 at 10:36

I agree with Elisa (same Elisa of self taught fame????). I too would like to take this opportunity to say thanks for this blog. Have yet to read everything yet but I am working on it. I would love to learn macro and is something I have yet to try. Still trying to find my niche in photography but some of the macros I have seen in cyberland are magnificent. I am hoping to start entering a few competitions soon and maye make a name in the market.
Thanks Photocritic.org.

Your book has been on my list of “must buys”, but due to my wife quitting her job to become a stay at home mom for our two daughters, my funds are VERY limited. I recently started uploading to some micro stock sites (hoping to make a little extra income) and found your article on the problems with micro stock and the comments on it informative.
I listed my web site in the reply portion, but my flicker page is http://www.flickr.com/photos/cjmgrafx
I always look forward to updates on your blog, keep up the great work.

With so many books on macro photography around and with loads of information on this subject available on the internet, why would I bother to read this book of yours? Anyway, this is just a post — DO NOT COUNT ME INTO THE DRAW –
BTW, did I tell you that I liked many of your postings in this site…Thanks for those.
#124 - April 22nd, 2008 at 13:40

If I don’t win a copy, I’ll probably end up buying a copy at some point anyway… but random numbers, if you’re listening that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t rather win one! If I win a copy, I’ll have more money to buy a shiny new macro lens too!

Hey, i could have say “No, I never win anything anyway” because its true, i never won anything in my whole life… actually no, i’ve won once a leather jacquet worth £300 in a club when i was 14, and it wasn’t even my ticket but one i found on the floor… ok that was lucky but that it, nothing for the last… 14 years or so;
So i give it a try… because as we said “100% of the lottery winners have actually played!”
I feel like i’m gonna win this time! bring on the book!
by the way, i have to say i love your website, really.
“Longue vie a Photocritic!!!”
a bientot!

Don’t know if only is for a certain country, or it’s open to all the world.
But here I am getting in the list to get a copy of your book.

I’d love a copy of the book…I’ve always been curious about macro photography but don’t really know where to start in terms of equipment, learning, etc. Thanks!

Do you ship to Italy too? ;)
Here is my website link : http://www.photo-sil.com . There you will find links to my photoblogs as well.

Of course I’d love a copy — I absolutely love to learn, especially topics that I love as much as photography (and yes, learning about learning is one of them too!). I’ve been reading your blog for a while and keep coming back to it. Thanks for the writing! I just recently started a blog of my own — http://www.justajot.com

Eeee… I’m probably too late. But I’d love to state my case. I need to learn more tips to get the best out of macro-ing my jewellery (which I also create) for my website. Plus I love up-close-y-ness.
