Tell me about photo blogs

Are you a photographer occasionally writing about photography? Post a comment.

Do you have your own photography blog? Post a comment.

Do you know of a site who runs DIY projects that sometimes are about photography? Post a comment.

Do you have a website which has some original angle on anything? Post a comment.

Do you run a page which has nothing to do with anything I’d be remotely interested in? Post a comment anyway.

See a pattern yet? Exactly – I’m very curious to find out more about what makes my readers tick – and of course, I’m looking for new sources from where I can pilfer ideas for interesting articles for Photocritic.

Too shy to post a comment in public? Send me an email instead – get your submissions in to hajejan@photocritic.org!

You can even send press releases, if you are a company, but if they are crap, prepare to be ridiculed.

Money made from this advert will be invested in prime lenses.
This post, "Tell me about photo blogs", is part of these categories: All articles, was posted by Haje Jan Kamps and saw the light of day on the 20th of August 2006. I hope you liked it.

Well, I do have some photo related stuff, but I do not feature my gallery or albums promenently on my site.

I did post about some DIY and frugal photography a little while back wherein Photocritic.org was added in the comments. I link to several sites with some good info.

Also, there is a little post on how to get the most out of your consumer digital camera.

Well, I’m not shy. :-) I have a photo blog (see above), and I’ve enjoyed this site and have gotten several ideas of things that I want to try.

I don’t have any DIY tutorials, and I’m not sure if it’s an original angle (or any kind of angle), but I’ve been writing lately on my film-based digital workflow at Treemeat.com.

I run a blog about my experience with photography as well as some tutorials, info articles and links to cool photography stuff.

As someone who has just started out in photography I wanted a project that would help me learn many of the different techniques used.

I am attempting to take and post a new photo every day the year – at times this has effectiely been a photo blog.

I am achieving what I wanted in that almost every day I am learning something new.

I love this site. The links are great, the articles are always interesting even if I might not practice the vein of photography they’re about or need the items/systems they’re talking about. DA is also fantastic for photography enthusiasts. Heaps of marvelous galleries there.

I would like to let you know about a new photography website concept that we have built. http://www.photozook.com is a photo review site with a twist.

The site is currently in beta form.

The site is for photographers to show off their work and get constructive comments on their work. This is not a photo sharing or storage site, but there is no limit as to the number of images a photographer may upload for comments or voting, although we envision photographers uploading no more than 10-20 images per week.

The main goal of the site is for photographers to post an image to the site either by uploading or linking from their own site. This image is then put in the photo queue were people can vote on the image if they like it. Once a photo get’s enough votes, it is automatically promoted to the front page of the site.

A vote means you like the image, a non-vote means you are not fond of the image. We tried to make it as simple as possible.

Users can also leave comments on the photo as well.

The site is completely free and is open to anyone who wants to upload images.

To upload or comment, you need to log in. Registration takes all of about 10 seconds and requires a username, email and password.

So, if you have a couple spare moments, please stop by and check it out.

I also would like to hear what you think about the concept as well as the functionality.

http://www.photozook.com

A couple notes:

1. The look and feel is temporary. It is being changed.

2. Once we get the main functionality working as expected, we will be adding additional features.

3. If you have any issues or problems uploading or linking to your image, please let me know.

Hi

I’ve just come agross this site:
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~zhuxj/astro/html/stfc.html

The author describes taking multiple (time lapse) photographs of the night sky in a city with lots of light pollution. A 20s exposure is about as long as he can go without washing out the photo. He then describes how he merged these photos (using a “max” operation) to create star trails over the city. Would love to know how to do that in more detail.
Cool.

By Benjamin Franzmayr on October 3rd, 2006 (permalink)

Hello, me again.

I’ve just built (carved is probably a better word) a dummy NB-2L battery to act as a Canon ac adapter for my old S45 or S80. I couldn’t afford the official ACK700 adapter and didn’t want to sacrifice my battery which still has some life left in it.

So I just used simple hand tools (saw, chisel, craft knife (aka box cutter)) to cut out a piece of wood the same shape as the battery, take apart an unneeded computer power socket for the electrical contacts, cut & nailed the contacts in place (there was a convenient hole) and soldered a cable & DC power socket onto them. I had a multi-voltage regulated ac adapter which I simply set to 7.5V, same as the batteries nominal voltage, and plugged it in.

Works great.

I set my computer up last night to take time lapse photos of the dawn out of my window and it worked fine.

The “T” terminal in the centre is not connected so not needed. It is probably a thermistor to monitor battery temperature when charging so is probably not needed or even sensed by the camera.
Am happy for this hack to be featured on this website or wherever.

I don’t have a website or blog but have posted 3 photos on flickr – http://www.flickr.com/photos/44775325@N00/sets/72157594311758269/
hope that works.

Macro Photography Photo Workshop

Macro Photography Photo Workshop by Haje Jan Kamps My day job, if it can be called that, is being a writer. I've got one book out there so far and it's awesome, so go ahead and buy a copy! It's available from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, and most decent-sized bookshops, too!

To find out more, check out this post! If you want to know more about the 'being a writer' thing, check this site out.

Put another dime in the jukebox

Put another dime in the jukebox In front of you, five hyperactive men with guitars, drums, and microphones. Behind you, five thousand fans. In your hands, a camera... You're going to need more than just a little bit of good luck to pull this one off. That's where this book comes in.

With nearly a hundred fantastic gig photos, and a ton of info about how to get involved in taking photos like this yourself, you can't go wrong. Buy this book. Grab your camera. Good luck.

Street Photography: London

Street Photography: London Take a Canon EOS 450D. Attach a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. Hit the streets of London. See what happens.

Sounds simple - but the results are anything but. Moving, intense, and personal, Street Photography: London is a great collection of the people of London, their passions, and their dreams. Look for yourself!

About

This site is all about learning more about photography, from the incredibly insightful (rarely) to the dreadfully mundane (also, hopefully rarely) via just about everything in between.

If this website seems a little whimsical and random, then that's because the author of this blog, who for the occasion is confusing himself by writing about himself in the third person, is slightly whimsical and random himself.

Enjoy!
