Great article, I've been vamping up my sites SEO.

Great tip about the file naming conventions. I was using the title in the page name, however I was using an auto generated timestamp for my file names for the actual photos. I've fixed that now. THANKS!!

Ha! You have thwarted me Haje, but seriously thanks for the info. The one beef I have is that in order to make google love your site you pretty much have to have a Hideous website. Something Clean in and professional looking in the photography world doesn't usually have a lot of text. So what would you suggest for my site... just tags?

Good image SEO advice, but ALT is not a tag. It's an attribute, & should not be confused with or the same as the TITLE attribute.

A great list of tips. It is worth noting that once a site is well set up it still needs work to create backlinks and generally promote it.

Great tips. This has been a miss understood topic in the photo community to all but a select few.

A word of caution on 'keywording the hell out of your title tag'. It's better to keep the title tag within character limits. That way you give more relevance to that one particular keyword phrase.

A very interesting article, thank you, with some points that I had not considered before. I agree that flash sites are a waste of time with the search engines, unless you also maintain a traditional HTML version, but that can be a pain in site maintenance.

The techniques you've mentioned are an excellent start for techniques to use for search engine optimization and getting your website to rank highly over other similar sites. I think the most impotent aspect is to create a well-defined list of targeted keywords that describe the type of photography you do and the geographic region you work in. There is a new 50 page ebook wing published soon that tailors SEO techniques to the professional photography industry that photographers interested in SEO, online marketing, and just plain making potential customers aware of their web site may be interested in. There are a couple sample chapters available for download and you can also reserve a pre-release copy for a significant discount at <a href="http://www.seoforphotographers.com" title="SEO, online marketing, website promotion, search engine optimization, and web site awareness for professional photographers" rel="nofollow">SEO for Photographers</a>.

There is a new 50 page ebook wing published soon that tailors SEO techniques to the professional photography industry that photographers interested in SEO, online marketing, and just plain making potential customers aware of their web site may be interested in. There are a couple sample chapters available for download and you can also reserve a pre-release copy for a significant discount at SEO for Photographers.
