Advertising on PC

We take our integrity very seriously - there’s no point in running a blog if you’ve been bought by The Man. I’m not doing this for the money (haha, if I was, I’d be bankrupt by now, running a photo blog is hardly a lucrative business), but at the same time, running this blog costs quite a bit of money, and even though we do occasionally get generous donations, it doesn’t even cover the running costs of the server and bandwidth.

I’m not made of money, and photography is a filthy expensive hobby, so I found myself faced with two options: Close down the Photocritic blog, or try to take measures to break even, so Photocritic isn’t costing me money, at least. At the moment (November 2006), I’m quite close to breaking even. Hell, I love writing for a big audience, and PC is read by over 75,000 people a month, so it’d be rude to turn all of you away!

Google AdSense

I’ve introduced Google AdSense contextual advertising. If you are reading an article about something that interests you, the advertising that is shown will be relevant to the article you are reading, and if/when you click on an advert, we are paid some money. I have no influence over what adverts are shown where.

Affiliate links

In addition Photocritic may occasionally use affiliate links on the website. In the interest of transparancy, we mark these clearly with al behind the link. The al link will be linking to this page, explaining what is going on.

When you click one of these links, we benefit in one way or another. Some times, we might get a cut of money you are spending with a retailer, we might get paid per click, or there might be other ways we benefit. If you want to learn more about Affiliate links, how they work, and all that, have a look at the Affiliate Marketing article on Wikipedia.

I will never sell out…

Don’t worry - I cannot be bought, and will never recommend products, services, or retailers I don’t trust and believe in. If a website happens to have an affiliate scheme and we are going to link to it anyway, we may as well use an affiliate link: If you decide to spend some money with them, then we get a small percentage, which goes towards improving the Photocritic blog.

And if I ever make money off Photocritic, rest assured that the money will be invested wisely into my beer fund :-)

About

This site is all about learning more about photography, from the incredibly insightful (rarely) to the dreadfully mundane (also, hopefully rarely) via just about everything in between.

If this website seems a little whimsical and random, then that's because the author of this blog, who for the occasion is confusing himself by writing about himself in the third person, is slightly whimsical and random himself.

Enjoy!
