I think part of the issue is the traditional paper media were so slow to adapt to the digital age... you can see every time someone or something does not embrace or at least try to work with the new technology, you get left behind. Not saying photojournalism went this way, but the medium photojournalist use to tell their stories may have.

I run into the local newspaper photographers in town shooting for the same stories I am doing on my blog, but they are using a 10 year old 2mp camera and like equipment... I never get that. He is probably a much better photog than I am, but if we are shooting the exact same thing, I think I have an advantage when using my more updated equipment (IMO). Nice article post here, thanks.

Bearing in mind the medium that we are reading this in, I would have thought that this would give us SOME hope?!

very well written. Sad thing to believe tho. photojournalism is an amazing art that can be moving, emotionally, and to think that it will be dead is just rediculous. can't allow it to happen.

Well written article, its even more dire when you see news agencies using poor quality images taken from the public with mobile phones.

Just like everything in the media these days, everything is becoming more shallow and of mediocre quality... sad....

I went to school mostly for photojournalism. Four years, roughly $30k spent. Halfway through my last semester my photojournalism teacher accidentally lets it slip that in five years the art as we were taught will be dead, and the courses for the next generation won't begin till next semester. Videos, ripping single frames from videos, etc.

His consolation, he was confident enough in our work that we could become wedding photographers.
