Sometimes I wish I could telepathically channel the sentiment expressed in this post into the heads of people who confront me and ask why I am taking a particular picture (usually with them in it).

Great theme to discuss. To support Daniela's opinion, I really think that only a small part of all the photos we take nowadays will help future historians because we don't give importance to small, normal for us things, and this will be exactly what people in the future will need.

Stephen Shore's cross American photo journeys from the 70s are an excellent example of how photos of the everyday can be much more informative than anything else.

"It will be very interesting to see where things are in photography 100 years from now. Instant upload from camera to online sharing account right from teh [sic] field maybe?"

That's possible right now with most phone cameras and some dedicated digital cameras! I would say life as we know it will be so different in 100 years as to render any hypothesizing about the state of photographic affairs in a century fairly meaningless.

Hi Daniela
Such a carefully, and informed, considered opinion of what may constitute an historically important record of today gives hope to those of us who are unable to travel to exotic destinations to capture beautiful images. It encourages us to look out for the exquisite beauty that surrounds us in what the uninitiated may consider as ordinary, mundane and boring. I love such motivating insights.
Thank you
