Digg for Photography is born
If you’ve been around on the Intergoogle for a while, you can’t have failed to find Digg. It’s a delightfully Web 2.0-ified anarchy of a website, where users can submit links, and where the community votes on them. It’s a clever idea, and certainly worked well for Digg (they’re wildly popular, and are making a fortune).
Now, there’s a brand new website which promises to do the same for the world of photography.
Despite a name that is so unimaginative it makes my nuts itch, the Pligg-powered* Photography Voter does for photography what Digg does for tech news.
It’s quite new at the moment, and a website like PV doesn’t become interesting until they get a big user base (otherwise it’s just too easy to doctor the front page)
*) Pligg is an open-source Digg clone. A while ago, I experimented with setting up a photography Digg clone myself, but decided it was totally worth it, but far too much hassle. Let’s hope that Photography Voter fares better - the world of Photography would be a better place if they succeed!

Good luck to them I say! Hopefully they can make a go of it as Digg not the best for photography articles - they don’t even have a category!

The site really is starting to get good. New users are signing up every day, and I’m starting to see quite a bit of traffic from them. I found this site when they had first launched, but they had it under the domain name of “diggPhotography”. A couple of hours after going live, they were shut down by digg because of the domain name, which is why it’s called photographyVoter now.
Right now, there are a couple of very active users (including myself as “auer1816″) and a good sized group of casual users. If you’re into this kind of thing, now is the time to get in there and establish yourself as a top photographyVoter. You never know if this thing will really take off. I’ve always hated the fact that digg doesn’t have a photography category, so I was delighted when this thing launched.

Hello all, just wanted to add that we had a pligg site for photography for a while, but have not release it to the public yet as we are only weekend coders on this. But I am happy to say that we have reached a stage where I believe the photography community would be happy with the website design. If you are into photography, definately take a look and your comments are always welcome.

You might take a look at fotoblur (http://www.fotoblur.com). Users submit images and other members vote to promote or demote the image. Members also build networks and are suggested images based on their network connections…plus there is a forum as well.
