Hi, my lovelies!
Well, the contracts have been signed, and I’m working my arse off on the photography book I am writing. It’s a tremendous honour and a fantastic challenge to be asked to write a book, but next to my 10-to-12-hour-a-day day-job and spending the rest of the time writing my book, there isn’t a lot of time for other things, including eating, sleeping, communicating with friends, or updating my Photocritic blog.
It’s a damn shame, because I do love this blog (hell, it’s the reason why I was asked to write the book in the first place, so it’s actually invaluable to my status quo), but there just isn’t a lot of time.
My deepest apologies. I expect to start getting a little bit more time as the book starts taking shape. Stay tuned - we’ll soon return to our regular scheduled programming. Oh, and no doubt I’ll be whoring out my book as well - it’s due to hit the book-shops in spring 2007. All I need to do now is to write the damn thing :)
Much love,
Haje Jan Kamps

Are you a photographer occasionally writing about photography? Post a comment.
Do you have your own photography blog? Post a comment.
Do you know of a site who runs DIY projects that sometimes are about photography? Post a comment.
Do you have a website which has some original angle on anything? Post a comment.
Do you run a page which has nothing to do with anything I’d be remotely interested in? Post a comment anyway.
See a pattern yet? Exactly - I’m very curious to find out more about what makes my readers tick - and of course, I’m looking for new sources from where I can pilfer ideas for interesting articles for Photocritic.
Too shy to post a comment in public? Send me an email instead - get your submissions in to hajejan@photocritic.org!
You can even send press releases, if you are a company, but if they are crap, prepare to be ridiculed.

Have you got a passion for photography? Do you like to browse about and find quirky things to do with photography? In that case, you’ve got what it takes to be a guest blogger on Photocritic?
Don’t worry too much about your writing (I work as an editor in my day-job, so straightening out copy is second nature to me), it’s far more important that you have passion and an eye for what makes a good story!
The best way to get involved is to drop me an e-mail (hajejan@kamps.org) with some news tips, or even a draft (or fully written-out) story!
Cheers,
Haje Jan Kamps

Most hardcore DIY fans out there will have heard of Make magazine - it’s O’Reilley’s first steps into the magazine publishing world, after many a year of publishing high-quality books.
And now, it’s our turn. One of the project editors over at Make contacted us a while ago about publishing our Macro-lens-built-from-pringles-box article in the magazine. I re-wrote it for magazine publishing, and the result? Well, the mag’s on newsstands May 22nd (the day after my birthday, incidentally!), so pick up a copy, or order an on-line subscription today!
Apart from our article, It’s got tons of other great DIY-based stuff in it, too, of course, with dozens of funky projects.

Whoah, it’s been a long time since Photocritic has been updated. My sincerest apologies, but I’ve been in the process of moving from Liverpool to Bristol (that’s about 200 miles), and I’ve started a new job, over at Future Publishing, so I now work for the same publishing house as the guys who make Digital Camera magazine, Computer Arts and T3! Up until yesterday, Photocritic seemed to have been on every blog and website known to man, including MSNBC, Adobe, Digg, and scores of photography blogs. Yesterday, we captured the holy grail of web-traffic: A posting on Slashdot. Unfortunately, my lovely little server kicked the bucket before the fifth comment on slashdot.
