I was amazed when I first found out that photography existed before the 1800's but people (scientist) were simply unable to make the photo solidify for any length of time without fading away. It is perfectly intuitive, but it is still not something we naturally think about. Thanks for the article!!

I agree. Thank you for this blog! I check it every day. Always great stuff. I really enjoyed this entry on the history of film. I like to sometimes employ old school techniques just for fun. The other day I took the lens off my SLR and put a piece of thin cardboard with a tiny hole in the middle of it over the aperature. I took a long exposure and lo and behold, there was the image!

Just read your first entry in history of photography series. Very well done and thanks for the links. I just had to take the time to let you know how much I like your blog and I appreciate the time you take to make it so good. My "day job" is with computers and my passion is photography so I know a bit about both. I know that to create such a consistently good site you have to be spending a lot of time and effort. I appreciate it and always look forward to your new posts. I found you initially by using Google’s blog search but now I check directly by your url, one of the few that I remember off the top of my head.

So from a regular reader,
Thanks for all you do!
